Technology for Tracking Kids

Technology Options For Tracking Kids

It’s easy these days to track teenagers through their smartphones using various parent apps or the Apple “Find My Phone” feature. Knowing where their kids are can be a huge relief for many parents. But what about children that are too young for smartphones? These “tweens” and preteens may be old enough to roam around their neighborhoods, but parents still like knowing their location. Thankfully, there are many technology options for tracking kids of all ages.

Geozilla

The GeoZilla GPS Tracker offers worldwide tracking ability and an SOS button for the child, used to alert you that they have been separated from you or need help. This compact, economical choice can track a child’s location within 15 feet, and has a long-lasting battery. A small lanyard and pouch are provided, or it can be slipped into a pocket or bag.

Tracki Mini

Another global option that is small and affordable is the Tracki Mini, which comes with several attachment options, including a magnet, keychain and lanyard. This device provides alerts for leaving a specific area in the “geofencing” feature. Movement alerts let you know when a child is in a speeding car or if an item is stolen or moved from a known location. The child can use the SOS button, and two additional alert buttons can be used for non-emergency purposes as well.

Jiobit

Another small, lightweight option is the Jiobit, which clips onto a child’s backpack or waistband. This device is a bit pricier but comes with an array of additional features. It will provide alerts when your child leaves or arrives at a specific location or certain area you specify. It also has the technology to learn your child’s routine and alert you if they are not where they usually are. There is also the SOS button option if a child needs to alert their parent in real-time. Its durability, long battery-life and tamper-proof technology also make it a great option.

AngelSense

A more robust option with the most functionality, AngelSense was created specifically for tracking the location of special needs children and adults, and works well for all kids. In addition to an SOS button for the child, parents can use the two-way talk function to communicate with them. This feature can also be used as a “listen in” function to see how the child is doing. These communication capabilities make it a great substitute for a cellphone for those not up for the responsibility. AngelSense also provides the most real-time tracking by recording location updates every 30 seconds.  It attaches with a comfortable, wearable sleeve and also has non-removable fasteners that prevent removal of the device.

The technology options for tracking kids listed in this article involve a wearable device that communicates to a parent’s smartphone app. Other options include kids’ smart watches with no social media capability. There are also devices that talk to each other specifically for group communication. No matter which option you choose, tracking your child’s location is one way to increase the safety and security of your family.
